Hotel Kouros – Walks & Tours
Kaloyeros mountain, Bronze-Age Fortress Ruins,
Mesi Village (lunch) return to Apollonas.
Approximately 7 hours, with stiff ascent to the top of Kaloyeros mountain.
You should be reasonably fit. The going is rough and steep, but no rock-
climbing, and the views from the top are breathtaking. Hiking boots or good
walking shoes recommended, but trainers are okay too.
After that an easy walk to Mesi Village with lunch in the shade of a 1000 year old Plane tree (Platanos) in the village meeting place beside the water source. Mesi is a small unspoilt village; the people unaffected,friendly and welcoming. After lunch, it’s downhill all the way back to Apollon.

Kouros of Apollon, Aghios Fikas Bay
Easy walking, approx 6 hours tour with lunch and swimming.
The Kouros is an unfinished statue of Dionysos, a marble colossos 10.5 metres long, lying where he was sprung from the rock some 2.600 years ago.
Aghios Fikas is a delightful, secluded bay with a multi-coloured pebble beach.
Lunch, swimming, stone collecting, dozing and general laziness before walk back to Apollon

From Apollon to the ruined Venetian Castle at ‘Aghia’ and walk down to the deserted nunnery. Shade from huge Plane trees and the splashing of ever-running water from an ancient source. Drive up through the wild mountain scenery of the Mirisis valley to Komiaki, the highest village on Naxos. Refreshments and then on to Koronos, the most picturesque mountain village of the island. Lunch and return to Apollon via some of the oldest olive groves you have ever seen.

Your guide for the walks and tours is Stuart Thorpe who knows the island
intimately and who lives and works here. A mine of useful and not so useful information and tall stories who has known the Sideris family, who own the Kouros Hotel, for over 30 years. Nevertheless, you will have a good time.

taking better photos, just ask.
